Vocabulum news

Vocabulum is a free Telegram app for learning Greek. This page lists notable updates to the app, from new sections to new topics and exercises, with the date each one arrived.

October 2026

  1. Cyprus culture exam: practice test

The Cyprus section now has a practice exam: 25 questions in Greek, 45 minutes and a target of 60% correct answers. You can change your answers until you finish the attempt.

Afterward, a review shows the correct answers, explanations and your results by topic. It is a Vocabulum practice tool, not an official test.

  2. Share your progress

A new button next to the settings in your profile builds a card with your streak, words learned and level. Send it to a Telegram chat, post it to your story or save it as an image.

The card links to the bot, so friends can start learning Greek with you.

  3. Cyprus culture learning without chapters or limits

Cyprus exam prep now starts with a single “Learning” button. Each session mixes questions due for review with new facts, most important first.

There are no chapters and no daily cap: when one session ends, you can start the next right away.

  4. The Vocabulum website is live

The app now has a website in English and Russian. It describes every section of the app and includes sample words, the Greek alphabet with pronunciation and answers to common questions.

This page is where we will post updates.

September 2026

  1. Answers count instantly

In word practice, your answer now counts right away, even when the connection is slow or drops for a moment. The app saves answers on your device and sends them in order once you are back online.

  2. Weekly leaderboard, results and achievements

The weekly leaderboard is now shared by all learners, and you can compare yourself with everyone or only with your friends. When the week ends, you see your position and award, and the result goes into your weekly history.

Achievements with levels arrived as well: for words, streaks, grammar, listening and Cyprus questions. After your first session of the day, the app shows your streak growing and which days of the week already count.

  3. Memory hints for Cyprus facts

Cyprus facts now come with memory hints: short associations that help a date, a name or a place stick. The hints are available in English and Russian.

  4. Perfect tense, mediopassive verbs and conditionals

The grammar trainer moved on to harder material. September brought the perfect tense, mediopassive verbs and conditional sentences with αν and the future.

As in every other topic, a wrong answer comes with an explanation of the right one.

  5. Word collections for levels A1, A2 and B1

Words now carry a level, and the library has three new collections: Level A1, Level A2 and Level B1. Over the summer the dictionary grew noticeably, adding B1 words to the A2 vocabulary.

If you already know some of the words, mark them when you first open the app, and it will suggest a collection to start with.

August 2026

  1. Five voices for audio

Voice choice arrived in the settings in April, followed by the first male voice in May. There are now five voices: Δέσποινα, Αοιδή, Καλλιρρόη, Νίκος and Ανδρέας.

Each of them reads the whole dictionary, and you can listen to a voice before choosing it.

  2. Present tense by verb type

In the present tense topic you can now pick a single conjugation type: Α, Β1, Β2, contracted verbs or Γ1 (-ομαι). This lets you drill one group of verbs before mixing them.

  3. The alphabet and reading rules

For complete beginners the app now teaches the alphabet: the letters, their names and sounds, and then the letter combinations that are read in special ways.

Exercises train you to recognize letter names, match lowercase and uppercase letters and hear a sound inside a word. Separate rules explain how a letter’s sound depends on the letters around it.

  4. Flashcards and a choice of exercise types

You can now switch off the exercise types you don’t want in the settings.

New formats arrived too: self-graded flashcards (recall the translation, reveal the answer and grade yourself), a quick “Remember / Don’t remember” check and “Gaps in a word,” where you fill in the missing letters.

July 2026

  1. Listening practice

The listening section is open. Each lesson is a short Greek recording with questions about it, and you can replay the recording as often as you like.

After answering, you can open the transcript and its translation. Lessons are grouped into stages from easy to hard, and finishing a stage opens the next one.

  2. GeoQuiz: places on the map of Cyprus

The Cyprus section now has GeoQuiz. A point is marked on the map of the island, and you choose which town, landmark or other place it is. It makes the geography in the exam syllabus easier to remember.

  3. Cyprus culture exam prep

A new section helps you prepare for the Cyprus culture exam. Its questions cover the island’s history, geography, politics and institutions, culture, religion and traditions.

Every fact is written in Greek, English and Russian, and the questions you get wrong come back for review.

  4. A short introduction for new users

New users now get a short introduction to the app. It lets you listen to the audio voices and pick one, set the session length and turn on reminders.

You can replay the introduction from the settings.

  5. Stats screen

A new stats screen brings together your streak, your progress with words and an activity calendar that highlights the days you studied, so you can see at a glance how regular your practice is.

June 2026

  1. Word of the day and Telegram stories

The bot can send you a word of the day, picked to match your vocabulary. The message includes a picture, an example and its translation.

You can now share a session result to your Telegram story with a card made for it.

  2. Future tense, να and the imperative

May and June brought four new grammar topics: the future tense, να with a verb, the nominative case and the imperative.

The rules section has a chapter on choosing the right imperative form.

  3. Situation cards for the A2 exam

In May the phrasebook got its first card, about how your day went. In June it was joined by a trip story, an informal and a formal letter, choosing between options and giving your opinion, and a description of your home and neighborhood.

These are typical speaking and writing tasks of the A2 exam. The cards have Greek phrases with Russian translations, and the words in each phrase link to dictionary entries with audio.

  4. Streak freeze and supporting the project

If you miss a day, a streak freeze can now keep your streak going. Freezes are bought with Telegram Stars, and every learning section stays free.

You can also support the project with a donation.

  5. Sessions of up to 50 exercises and hard-word practice

You can now set the session length in the settings: 10, 20, 30 or 50 exercises.

There is also a separate practice for hard words, the ones you get wrong most often.

May 2026

  1. Grammar rules reference

The app now has a grammar reference: short chapters with rules, form tables and examples. You can open it without starting an exercise, for example to brush up on endings before a session.

The rules are written in English and Russian, following the interface language.

April 2026

  1. Reminders from the bot

The bot can now remind you to study. A reminder arrives as a message with a picture and a button that opens the app, timed for your time zone.

  2. Dictionary search and phrase exercises

The dictionary now has search: find a word by its Greek spelling or its translation and add it on its own, without adding the whole collection.

Ready-made phrases for letters and writing tasks joined the dictionary, along with exercises to build a phrase from words and put the words in order.

  3. Past tense

The past tense arrived in the grammar trainer. Exercises start with common verbs and go up to B1–B2 forms, and a separate topic brings all the verbs together.

As in other topics, a wrong answer shows the correct form and explains the choice.

  4. Audio and pictures for words

In early April every word and phrase in the dictionary got audio, and word cards got pictures. The pictures are made with the help of artificial intelligence, and the app says so.

New exercises arrived around the same time: match pairs, recognize a word by ear and pick the picture with its translation. A new word is now shown in full first, with its picture and sound, before it appears in exercises.

March 2026

  1. Words with spaced repetition

Next to grammar, the app gained a words section. Words are grouped by topic, and each session mixes new words with ones that are due for review.

After every answer the app recalculates when to bring a word back: a correct answer pushes the review further out, and a mistake brings it closer. You can also practice the words you got wrong on their own.

  2. First version: a grammar trainer

Vocabulum started as a Greek grammar trainer. The first version covered articles, the accusative and genitive cases, exercises for telling them apart, and pronouns.

After each mistake the app explained which form was needed and why. The very next day, exercises on word order and agreement endings were added.
