Vocabulum is a Telegram app for Greek listening practice: 60 short lessons in 12 stages, from level A1 to B1. Listen as often as you need, answer the questions, then read the transcript and the translation.

## Inside the app

Listen to a short text and answer the questions. Then open the transcript and translation to check what you understood by ear.

## How the lessons work

The listening section keeps growing. We will add short texts, dialogues and comprehension questions, and improve the audio and translations.

Each lesson is a short recording in Greek: a dialogue, a voice message, an announcement, a story, a timetable, instructions, an interview or a news report. You can play it as many times as you like and then answer four to six questions about it; there are 283 questions in total.

A lesson is passed with at least 70% correct answers. When you finish a stage, the next one opens.

## 12 stages, from simple to complex

The topics come from everyday life, and the texts get harder from stage to stage. In the first five stages the questions are in your interface language; from the sixth stage on they are in Greek.

- **People around us**: Names, cities, work, meetings, and simple changes of plan.

- **Time and daily routines**: Daily sequences, opening hours, meeting times, and family plans.

- **Food and shopping**: Quantities, food choices, prices, totals, and a simple order.

- **City routes**: Turns, landmarks, transfers, and changed points along a route.

- **Home and neighbourhood**: A flat, household tasks, repairs, neighbour requests, and changes at home.

- **Health and help**: Symptoms, medical appointments, medicine, delays, and help in unexpected situations.

- **Travel and accommodation**: Tickets, departures, check-in, travel plans, and solving problems on the road.

- **Work and study**: Work responsibilities, course conditions, feedback, combining study with work, and schedule changes.

- **Invitations and events**: The purpose of gatherings, event programmes, participant preferences, and reasons for changes.

- **Housing, money, and public services**: Rental terms, payments, household budgeting, documents, and resolving housing complaints.

- **Life stories and experience**: Event chronology, reasons for change, turning points, and their consequences.

- **Community choices and opinions**: Comparing proposals, weighing different arguments, compromises, and the consequences of decisions.

## Transcript and translation

After the questions you can open the transcript and its translation, find what you misheard and listen again with the text in front of you.

## How to practice listening

Listen first without the text and try to understand the gist: who is speaking, where and about what. Then answer the questions, open the transcript and find the words you did not recognize. Return to the lesson in a day or two and check what you can now understand without help. You can replay completed stages.

## Words by ear

Vocabulary practice also has a listening mode, with audio exercises using words from your collections. Read about choosing collections and exercises on the [Greek vocabulary page](https://www.vocabulum.app/vocabulary).
